A thunderstorm couldn’t have been more fitting weather for the launch of Upright Beasts, Lincoln Michel’s debut collection of short fiction out now from Coffee House Press.

Michel, who earned his MFA at Columbia University, is a model literary citizen. He is the co-founder of Gigantic, the online editor of Electric Literature and a drawer of “Monster Lit” trading cards. He also describes himself as a “fairly frequent tweeter.”

Benjamin Moser has spent the last twelve years of his life immersed in the Brazilian author Clarice Lispector. He has written a biography of her, translated and edited her works, and most recently contributed to the The Complete Stories, translated by Katrina Dodson. He was at WORD Bookstore in Brooklyn to discuss Lispector’s life and work along with the novelist Porochista Khakpour, at an event hosted by Vol 1 Brooklyn.

Porochista Khakpour released her second novel, The Last Illusion, earlier this month. The Iranian born, New York City based novelist was joined by Alexander Chee at McNally Jackson to discuss the book.
